Wood

Different types of wood have different applications

There are 3 different types of wood and it is important to separate these at source.

A-wood is the name for the highest quality wood waste. It consists of untreated, unvarnished and non-impregnated wood waste. After collection, the material is chipped and any impurities or materials that don't belong with it, are removed before and after chipping. The material can then be used as a raw material for the production of compressed boards (such as chipboard) and pellets. A portion of the chipped wood is used as a ground covering or as fuel for generating sustainable energy.

B-wood is the name for wood waste that belongs to the middle segment in terms of quality. This is wood that has been painted or glued, but not wood that has been preserved by impregnation. B-wood is sorted to find any potentially valuable streams before being shredded. The majority of the shredded wood is used to generate green energy. A small portion is used to produce chipboard.

C-wood is the name for impregnated wood and can only be used as fuel, for the purpose of energy generation. Material re-use is not permitted because the wood contains poisonous substances.
