Residual waste

Waste no more.

Luckily, the percentage of residual waste is reducing each year. Which we are all responsible for. But what actually happens to the residual waste that can't be recycled any further?

Residual waste is incinerated in special waste-to-energy plants. This incineration process generates sustainable energy such as electricity, steam and heat. After incineration, 20-25% is left over as bottom ash. These are ashes that remain after incineration from which further valuable materials can be extracted such as metals and minerals. At Renewi’s Mineralz, advanced techniques are used to improve this mineral fraction and convert it into Forz. This is our own, unique, sustainable construction material, which can be used in the concrete industry as well as for building and civil engineering. Next, as much as possible of the remaining bottom ash is used as a construction material. This minimises the percentage of waste that cannot be used in any other way.
