Recognition for our work

Our work has been recognised in recent years and rewarded with several awards. In Belgium, we won the Trends Impact Award in the Circular Economy category. This award highlighted our innovative sorting facilities and compliance with VLAREMA 8 legislation. In addition, Coolrec won first prize at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe for their fridge made from recycled plastic. And Maltha was awarded the PME Revelation Award by Express PME Caixa in the Energy and Environment sector, in recognition of their commitment to the circular economy. These awards and recognitions reinforce our commitment to innovation and sustainability. They make us proud of our work in the circular economy and motivate us to continue our efforts towards having a positive impact on the environment and society.

ESG Accreditations and ratings
We use external ratings and standards to measure and improve our ESG performance. This allows us to benchmark ourselves against best practices and meet stakeholder expectations.

Standards

GRI

Renewi reports its non-financial performance with reference to the GRI standards. This international benchmark is one of the criteria for UN Global Compact membership and recognised as a best practice for non-financial reporting. The GRI standards we report on include emissions, energy consumption, diversity and safety.

SBTi

In 2023, Renewi committed to submitting short-term targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This is the first step towards our net-zero targets for CO₂ reduction, to contribute to a maximum 1.5°C global warming, as set out in the Paris Agreement. We are currently awaiting SBTi's review and approval of our targets.

TFCD

We are working to fully implement the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TFCD) to further enhance our understanding of climate-related risks and opportunities.

UN Global Compact

Renewi is an Advanced Level Reporter of progress towards the UNGC Ten Principles. We are committed to continuous improvements in the areas of environment, human rights, labour and anti-corruption.

CDP

In FY24, we maintained a C rating for our climate change transparency, with improvements in the underlying rating elements compared to the previous year.

S&P

S&P global ratings have recognised our sustainability-focused business model in previous years, as well as our contribution to the circular economy and our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But, in FY23, our sustainability rating dropped significantly compared to previous years. We are currently investigating the causes and will address any perceived problems so that we can return to the higher rating categories.

ISO

All our Commercial Waste and Specialities sites (100%) and 86% of Mineralz & Water sites are certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard. Certification for the only non-certified M&W site is planned.

ISAE

To ensure the reliability of our Scope 1&2 emissions, we have been insured under the ISAE 3410 standard since FY22. Underwriting for FY22 and FY23 was renewed following retrospective data corrections.

PSO Ladder

In the Netherlands, we are certified at Level 1 of the Social Entrepreneurship Performance Ladder (PSO). This shows our contribution to the employment of people in a vulnerable position in the labour market. We aim to further strengthen our commitment to social entrepreneurship and progress to higher levels on the PSO ladder.

Ecovadis

This review focuses on policies, procurement practices, labour standards and other aspects of corporate responsibility, tailored to the size and location of the entity, with a focus on the relevant industry. Our Commercial Waste divisions have received silver Ecovadis medals in both Belgium and the Netherlands, with scores of 55/100 and 66/100 respectively.

CO₂ Performance Ladder

The standardisation of our greenhouse gas calculation in FY23 allowed Renewi to extend its CO2 performance ladder certification by SKAO (Foundation for Climate-Friendly Procurement & Business) to its entire non-UK activities in FY24. Renewi proudly retains Level 4 certification, the second highest level.

LSE Green Economy Mark

FTSE4Good

For the fifth year in a row, Renewi has maintained its position on the FTSE4Good index.
