Crockery gets a second life
07 April 2021
Mineralz, a subsidiary of Renewi, and Urban Nature Culture started a collaboration agreement to give discarded crockery a second life. Urban Nature Culture collects discarded dinnerware from second hand shops, etc., and by glazing it with FORZ®Glaze gives it a new life. Mineralz produces FORZ®Glaze with secondary raw materials including purified bottom ashes. The resulting pottery is certified and as such completely safe to eat or drink from as well as reducing the use of primary raw materials.
This collaboration gives new life to the hundreds of pieces of crockery that are thrown away every year. In this way old dinnerware that would otherwise be thrown away is given a new life with FORZ®Glaze.
“We’re very proud of the collaboration with Urban Nature Culture,” says Theo Olijve, managing director of Mineralz & Water. “The products made with FORZ®Glaze are suitable for consumption purposes and needless to say are conform all needed requirements. Crockery with FORZ®Glaze shows that secondary materials are just as safe and strong as primary materials.”
FORZ®Glaze is produced in Mineralz’s factory in Zevenaar and used by Urban Nature Culture to glaze the second-hand crockery in its Amsterdam facilities. The sustainable dinnerware is available from a large number of home décor stores in the Netherlands and beyond as well as from de Bijenkorf department stores.
“A dream come true!” says Wim Compier, General Manager of Urban Nature Culture. “Three years ago we had the idea of glazing and reusing second-hand dinnerware. The collaboration with Mineralz and FORZ®Glaze came like manna from heaven and we now create 100% circular crockery, unique in the world.”
